Uneven skin tone is a result of hyperpigmentation in the skin. Hyperpigmention refers to the excess of melanin or pigment in the skin, thus creating blotchy, uneven skin. Reasons for hyperpigmentation may include hormone imbalances, hereditary, acne scarring or sun damage. Whilst not all of these factors can be avoided, there are a couple that can be managed, so here are a few tips that can help you manage those particular factors and that uneven skin tone.
1. Slip. Slop. Slap... and by that, we really just mean wearing an SPF - using an SPF is a preventative measure. When your skin is exposed to the sun, the melanocyte cells in your skin are triggered to produce melanin to protect your skin. It is this production of melanin that causes your skin to tan. Unfortunately, the sun may cause melanin to increase at an uneven rate which is where the uneven skin tone may come from. So covering up before you go out is a good idea.
2. Exfoliate - exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells that are building up and clogging your pores. The process of exfoliating also helps to rejuvenate your skin. By exfoliating, you are promoting the growth of new, healthy cells and therefore more even, healthy looking skin. We recommend Enbacci's Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Scrub for polished skin.
3. Dark spots - there are plenty of products on the market which are aimed at reducing the appearance of dark spots, thus leaving the skin looking more even.
4. Keep hydrated - we all know that we are supposed to be drinking at least eight glasses of water a day, so for skinsake (excuse the pun), DO IT! Keeping the body hydrated means that you are keeping your cells hydrated and are allowing them to work effectively to expel all the toxins from your body as well as provide them with the necessary nutrients. Remember that achieving even skin is a slow process and is not something that can be done over night. Don't go too hard on yourself if you don't see immediate results. Be vigilant with your skincare routine and keep yourself healthy.
Good luck!
